WINDSOR: Windsor Castle in Windsor, Berkshire is a must if you are in town, especially fun is the audio guided tour by Scorch the Dragon which is perfect for the kids. Windsor is also home to LEGOLAND Windsor Resort a great destination for loads of fun for three to twelve year olds – over 55 interactive rides, live shows and more; set in 150 acres of beautiful parkland. And if your kids like chocolate then there is Dr Choc’s Windsor Chocolate Factory where they can design their own chocolate bars and enjoy a drink in the café while the chocolate sets!
LAKE DISTRICT: England’s biggest national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Lake District is a great place to visit. You can take motor boats or rowing boats on Coniston Lake, or enjoy a boat cruise on Windermere or jump on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway to enjoy the stunning scenery. Or, there’s the Lake District Wildlife Park with an outdoor adventure park and over 100 species of exotic animals set in 25 acres of parkland. If there’s wet weather you can always head to The World of Beatrix Potter to meet Peter Rabbit and his furry friends.
SNOWDONIA: This place is just one big outdoor playground. Its home to the highest mountain in England and Wales and is also a place of forests, rivers, waterfalls and beaches. There is so much to do from zip-lining to climbing, white-water rafting, steam-train rides and even old slate mines and caverns to visit.
JURASSIC COAST, DORSET: Dorset’s most famous landmark Durdle Door is worth a visit where you can splash in the sea and play games on the beach and relax. Or walk in the woods and meadows or go fossil hunting on the beach along the famed 95 mile Jurassic Coast a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There’s also Alice in Wonderland inspired Adventure Wonderland, Monkey World or the Moors Valley Country Park with its trails, treetop walkways and high-wire adventure.
STAY FLEXIBLE: I’m guilty of this – you plan out a full itinerary for your holiday ahead of time making sure you are going to get everything done you want to but such a detailed plan is often a trap! You never know what unexpected hiccups are going to occur on holiday, especially with the kids in tow so make sure you leave plenty of wiggle room for diversions or impromptu outings.
PLAN YOUR PACKING: A must! Make a packing checklist well ahead of time so you know exactly what you need and what you may need to buy to take. Pack clothing for all different types of weather scenarios (a must in the UK!) and think of things you may need for the journey in your new motor like snacks or travel games.
EMBRACE THE OUTDOORS: If you think of visiting anywhere in the UK and especially anywhere I’ve suggested above make sure you spend plenty of time outside and explore the landscape and get plenty of fresh air. There are many ways to enjoy the UK outdoors and many adventures to be had.
ENJOY THE FAMILY-FRIENDLY ATTRACTIONS: Find things the kids are going to enjoy and make lasting memories – and do your research beforehand, there may be special deals or discounts that you can take advantage of to help to minimize costs.
